Breanna Schneieder had a formative experience in high school when her Advanced Placement statistics class watched the movie “Moneyball,” about how the budget‑constrained Oakland Athletics used statistical analysis to build an overachieving roster.

Schneider said the film inspired her to study statistics at the University of Wisconsin‑Madison, but she soon reconsidered, realizing that her career likely would involve “sitting behind a desk all day, crunching numbers and not really interacting with people.” Simultaneously, COVID‑19 disrupted global supply chains, highlighting the importance of data analysis in logistics and piquing her interest in a new field of study.

In May 2024, Schneider graduated with a bachelor’s degree in supply chain management, operations and technology management, and data science, and now, she’s putting all that knowledge to work at Grainger, a leading distributor of industrial, maintenance, repair and operating supplies such as tools and safety equipment.

This past summer, Schneider began working in the operations support team analytics division at the Lake Forest, Illinois‑based company, the second leg of a three‑year rotational program. The role involves tracking a wide range of performance metrics for Grainger’s distribution centers (DCs) and retail stores. In her first year there, Schneider worked on the market inventory planning team, supporting the inventory needs of Grainger’s retail stores.
